During his presidency, the US increased its production of fossil fuels and nuclear power to put the county on the road to oil and power independence. On September 11, 2001, Bush's presidency was transformed by terrorist attacks that struck the World Trade Center in New Your CIty and a portion of the Pentagon building outside Wasington, D.C., resulting in the deaths of over 3,000 people.
