Rosemary Vasquez Tuthill, “Thank you for your interest!
My oil portrait paintings are influenced by my father’s, Emigdio Vasquez’s, style – but with a feminine touch. My father was a renowned artist with over 400 oil paintings. In my opinion, a portrait painting is a unique gift for all ages that can become a family heirloom. Like my father, I studied the masters with their use of light and shadow such as the works of Rembrandt and Caravaggio. Oil paintings, such as still life heirlooms and portraits, become family treasures that can be handed down for generations.
I can paint in a photo-realistic style which is a determined effort to reproduce a photo image in an oil medium. I can also paint in an “interpretive” style where I start with a photograph and emphasize an individual’s character in a gritty style. As an example, the old masters in the Renaissance era, painted to emphasize earthy life and austerity.
Pictured here is a painting of Sage, who was 2 years old. Both her parents and she can look back on this painting for years to come!”
